Information on Essential Oils
An essential oil is a volatile, aromatic compound that is extracted from the flowers, leaves, stems, roots, bark or seeds of a plant. It is the concentrated essence of the original medicinal plant, containing the molecular constructs of its therapeutic properties. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years and are known for their aromatic and therapeutic benefits.
Here at Wellness Home & Life, we ensure that the oils that we stock contain only the most purest ingredients. The oils that we stock by Livley Living contain 100% pure and 100% certified organic ingredients to ensure that you as the customer are receiving the very best. So what is the difference between dollar store oils and your essential oils?
We often get asked what the difference is between our essential oils and those that you can buy at a discount dollar store. The answer is quite simple. You get what you pay for. The dollar store variety of 'essential oils' contain a synthetic chemical cocktail designed to replicate the smell of various essential oils. These oils are not at all good for you and are made entirely of chemicals. These oils have no health benefit, and can be harmful when breathed in. Although the synthetic cheaper oils might smell stronger, they're certainly not good for you. You do not want to have your family breathing in these artificial fragrance oils.
Our oils, on the other hand are made from pure ingredients, and a majority made from 100% certified organic ingredients free from adulterants and synthetic materials. There are many, many health benefits to using pure essential oils.
How do I store my essential oils?
People are often very surprised to find that essential oils have a shelf life. The truth is, that all essential oils have an expiry. There are three enemies to essential oils. Oxygen, heat and light. It is important to ensure that you keep your essential oils away from these things. Always ensure that you have the lid done up tight and it is stored in a cool dark place. If you want to make your essential oils last longer, keep them in the refrigerator.
Always check the expiry on the box/bottle.
Are essential oils safe?
Essential oils are incredible, natural, powerful things. For example, did you know that one single drop of peppermint essential oil is the equivalent of 28 cups of medicinal tea! So caution must be used at all times to ensure that you are using essential oils safely and correctly.
Essential oils should at ALL times be kept away from children.
Essential oils must NOT be ingested. If ingested, please contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.
We recommend using your essential oils in your ultrasonic diffuser, such as with the Aroma Bloom or Aroma Breeze. Simply add 2-3 drops of your essential oil into your diffuser and diffuse in an open, ventilated room. When using essential oils over night, we recommend you use your intermittent setting on your diffuser for best results.
We at Wellness Home & Life do not recommend that essential oils be used on or around infants under the age of 6 months due to their thinner skin and immature immune systems. As always, please consult your health professional or aromatherapist for more advice on the safe use when diffusing your essential oils around babies and children.
There is a lot of talk and controversy in regards to using eucalyptus and peppermint in young children. This is due to the possibility of slowed respiration caused by menthol and 1,8-cineole. We recommend that parents make their own informed decisions regarding this, and as always speak to their health professional regarding more advice on essential oil safety.
We believe that knowledge is power and would love to share with you some great resources by trusted world renowned clinical aromatherapists regarding essential oil usage, safety and tips and tricks.

Can I use my essential oils in the bath?
Yes absolutely you can. However, you cannot just drop your essential oils into the bath by themselves. Water and oils do not mix and the oils will just sit on the top of the water. When your body comes in contact with them, it will be just like using the oils on your skin undiluted, which is NOT ever a good idea. This can cause severe reactions, skin issues and sensitivities.
To use essential oils in the bath, always pre-dilute your essential oils in a carrier oil (you can get your carrier oils here). Be careful and use common sense and science to get the most out of your oils in the bath.
We recommend you use 2-5 drops of essential oil to 1 table spoon of carrier oil and 1/2 a cup of epsom salts, mix together and add to your bath.

We hope that this information has helped bring you some knowledge and power regarding how to use your oils. You can get our range of pure and certified organic oils for around $20-22 a bottle. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
